Issue: Scanner Not Being Recognized
Symptoms: Software unable to detect scanner
Resolution:
  1. Unplug power to the scanner.
  2. Confirm the scanner is in an unlocked position (locking toggle is on back left hand side of scanner).
  3. Reboot the computer.
  4. Plug USB cable for the scanner into the front of the machine.
  5. Plug power back in.
  6. Dialog will appear that new hardware has been found.
  7. Hit cancel when a dialog asks for software CD's.
  8. The scanner is now set up.
Issue: Outlook Express Is Not Holding Password
Symptoms: When retrieving e-mail continually prompted to enter account name and password
Resolution:
  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. On the main menu, select Tools | Folder Options. Folder options dialog appears.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Check the box that reads Show all hidden files and folders. It is the fourth line.
  5. Click the Data D: drive.
  6. Click the Driver Directories folder.
  7. Right click the file named server or server.reg.
  8. Click merge. Registry Editor dialog appears.
  9. Click yes.
  10. Repeat the last action 3 times.
  11. Reboot the machine.
  12. Re-enter password.
Issue: Outlook Express 6 Removing E-mail Attachments
Symptoms: Unable to open e-mail attachments
Resolution:
  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. On the main menu, select Tools | Options | Security. Security dialog appears.
  3. Uncheck the box that reads Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.
Issue: Log File Settings Entered Incorrectly
Symptoms: Incorrect information displayed on LOCATER posters/logfiles
Resolution:
  1. On the Windows toolbar, click Start | Search | For Files or Folders. Search for files or folders dialog appears.
  2. If you are getting the error in the training environment, In the Search for files or folders dialog type, Locaterdemo.por.
  3. Delete the file when it is located.
  4. If you are getting the error in the live environment, In the Search for files or folders dialog type, Locater.por. This is for the live environment.
  5. Delete the file when it is located.
  6. Depending in which application the error occurred; re-open the LOCATER for training application and/or LOCATER application.
  7. Re-enter organization information in the following manner:
  8. Organization name - site name. (ex: Osage Police Department) (default information should be deleted)
  9. Contact information - site contact name in charge of missing persons unit. (Default information should be deleted
  10. Phone number to call - site phone number to call in the event of discovery of missing person. (Default information should be deleted)
Issue: Transmitting User Name Test PC2 and Password ****** When Accessing ISP Server
Symptoms: A dialog that states, Transmitting user name and password ****when attempting to connect to local ISP
Resolution:
  1. On the Windows toolbar, Click the Start | Settings | Network and Dial-up connections | Internet. Internet dialog appears.
  2. Right click on Internet, select properties. Internet properties dialog appears.
  3. Select the Security Tab
  4. Confirm that the Run Interactive Script checkbox is not checked.
  5. Open Internet Explorer. On the main menu, select Tools | Internet Options. Choose the Connections tab. The Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings dialog appears.
  6. Highlight Internet.
  7. Click the Settings button. The Dial-up settings dialog appears.
  8. Delete all text in the user name and password boxes.
  9. This should clear up everything in the Test PC2****** nag.
Issue: Office XP Will Not Register
Symptoms: Prompted to enter Product Key when accessing office suite applications
Resolution:
  1. Log off the LOCATER profile. (start-shutdown-log off LOCATER)
  2. Now log on as administrator with the administrator password.
  3. Open Word or Excel. A registration dialogue will appear.
  4. Enter the site information as required and the product key number.
Issue: How Do I Apply For The LOCATER System
Symptom: Direct question from the site
Resolution:
  1. You can download the application from www.locaterposters.org.
  2. You can call the group line at 703.837.6938.
Issue: Unable to Delete Items from the Deleted Items Folder in Outlook Express
Symptoms: Can not delete items from the Deleted Items Folder in Outlook Express
Resolution:
  1. Close Outlook Express.
  2. Click the Start button.
  3. Go up to Search | For Files and Folders. Search for files or folders dialog appears.
  4. In the Search for files or folders dialog type, deleted items.dbx
  5. When this folder is located delete it.
  6. Open Outlook Express.
  7. Deleted Items folder will appear.
  8. Delete items from that folder.
