AOL Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the things I find in PowerUP bring up errors. What do I do?

As you or the kids visit the PowerUP site, you may find links to sites that have changed or no longer work. Please send e-mail to your PowerUP Regional Program Manager or contactpowerup@aol.com with details of the problem.

Why don’t I have access to some places on AOL?

The special PowerUP registration information automatically places some restrictions on each account. Access to some online areas will be restricted if the content may not be appropriate for children. PowerUP and AOL have worked hard to find Web sites that are appropriate for children in PowerUP; however, since AOL and PowerUP cannot control the content found on third-party Web sites that PowerUP Online links to, we cannot guarantee that every link on every site will be accessible.

AOL kicked me offline.

From time to time, you may lose your connection to AOL. Be sure to check that the phone line or Internet connection line haven’t been disconnected from the computer. Then try connecting again. If repeated attempts to reconnect do not work, call AOL Member Services at 1-800-827-6364.

Password was given out to friends or family.

If you or someone using a PowerUP AOL account has given out their password, connect to AOL immediately and go to Keyword: Password (type “password” into the box at the top and click Go). You will have the option to change the password to something else. PLEASE remind each user not to give out their password to friends or family. They should only give their password to you so that you can keep a record of it.

Forgotten Passwords

By writing down each user’s screen name and password on a registration form, you will always have a record of the password in case the user forgets it. Be sure to keep this information in a safe place so that screen names and passwords are not misused. Very shortly AOL will be empowering PowerUP centers to control student passwords and accounts. Until this feature is available, please keep records of your students passwords in a confidential listing.

We’ve used all of the registration numbers and passwords supplied. Can we request more?

Please send e-mail to your PowerUP Regional Program Manager or contactpowerup@aol.com with details of the problem.
